About Rabbi red and the Red Sunshine fund
A native of McAllen, Texas, Rabbi Dovid Goldstein (aka Rabbi Red) studied at the Lubavitcher Yeshivah in Los Angeles, Montreal, Central Yeshiva in Brooklyn, NY, Caracas Venezuela, and in Central Lubavitch Yeshiva in Kfar Chabad, Israel, where he received his rabbinical ordination.
Rabbi Goldstein arrived in Houston with his wife Elisa and daughter Sima in August 1998. He is the founder and director of the Chabad CHAI Learning Center of West Houston which serves the West Houston Jewish Community with Services, Adult Education, Hebrew School and Holiday Programs. He is the Founder and Director of The Friendship Circle of Houston for Jewish Children and adults with Special Needs. He is also the Associate Director of Chabad Outreach of Houston. His involvement in the community also includes the initiating of The Living Legacy Hands on programs. He was the Director for Camp Gan Israel in Houston for over a decade and currently is the Camp Administrator. He is the head rabbi of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and serves as a chaplain at the Richmond and Brenham State Supported living centers, Federal Correctional Complex in Beaumont, and the Harris County Jail. He is also the Jewish Chaplain at the Richmond State Supported Living Center and the Menninger Clinic. Fluent in Spanish, he also directs the Club Latino Jai programs for the Latin American Jewish community.
In 2006 Rabbi Goldstein received the Harold Reingold Yavneh award from the Bureau of Jewish Education for his outstanding educational contributions to the Greater Houston Jewish community. Rabbi Goldstein is married to Mrs. Elisa Goldstein and has four children Sima, Avrami, Chaya, and Zalman.
The Red Sunshine Fund was established by Texas Friends of Chabad Lubavitch to help Rabbi Dovid Goldstein fund the 3 valuable organizations and programs: CHAI Learning Center of West Houston, Friendship Circle of Houston, and Chabad Outreach Jewish Inmate Services that he runs for the Houston Community.
